Open-Xchange Improves Collaboration Server

Open-Xchange Inc. has released an upgrade to its Linux-based messaging server solution, Server 5, which includes a number of usability improvements.
The product now has improved SQL query performance for customers with a large number of users, according to an announcement issued by Open-Xchange. Mobile device synchronization has been optimized and usability with Microsoft Outlook has been improved.
The upgrade supports Red Hat Application Server 2, adding to its existing support for Red Hat Linux Enterprise Server 4 and SuSE Linux Enterprise Server.
The server is a platform for messaging and collaboration applications, including e-mail, calendar scheduling and contacts management. Server 5's Documail application integrates e-mail and document sharing, and also features version control for documents.
The company's Open-Xchange Hosting Edition solution can also be used by Web hosting companies to provide applications to customers via a software-as-a-service distribution.
Open-Xchange Server 5 is based on open source standards and licensed under the General Public License. It's designed to meet the needs of enterprises, government and academic institutions, among others.
The product can be used as an alternative to Microsoft Exchange, according to the announcement.
