Cream Rises to Top at 22nd Annual Codies

Black ties and Blackberries mingled last week at the Software & Information Industry Association's 22nd Annual Codie Awards. At the Washington, D.C.-based event, software developers received recognition across 75 nomination categories.

This year's Codies boasted the competition's most nominations in a single year, with 1,197 entries. First-round judges included representatives of industry publications and mainstream news outlets, as well as consultants and other experts. SIIA member companies then voted in the second round.

A complete list of winners can be found at http://www.siia.net/codies/2007/winners.asp.

Intuit (Mountain View, Calif.) was this year's winner of the most Codies, garnering four awards. The company's QuickBooks Merchant Services for Web Stores won "Best eCommerce Solution." Its QuickBase was judged "Best Project Management Solution." Quicken Medical Expense Manager took the prize for "Best Medical and Health Information Product." And lastly, Quicken Home Inventory Manager won "Best Home Productivity Solution."

Other Codie winners of note included these companies:

  • Atlanta-based Seagull Software for its HostFront extension to Visual Studio.NET, which helps .NET developers turn IBM host applications into Web services. HostFront was judged "Best Software Development Solution."
  • Monrovia, Calif.-based Parasoft for its Jtest Java testing tool for builders of Java EE, SOA, Web and other Java apps. Jtest took the prize for "Best Software Testing Solution."
  • Online supply chain management provider Click Commerce (Chicago) for "Best Web Services Solution."

Winning an award for developing software, applications and content in an industry that is changing and evolving at "break-neck" speed is something developers should be proud of, said SIIA president Ken Wasch.

"Being recognized by your peers for getting to and staying at the head of the pack in such a dynamic environment is a major accomplishment, and it is one of the reasons why the Codie Awards hold such a special place in our industry," Wasch said in a prepared statement.
