User Management Program Adds Security Upgrades

Lieberman Software Corp. has upgraded its flagship Windows management product, User Manager Pro, with a number of security and other enhancements and christened it User Manager Pro Suite.
Los Angeles-based Lieberman has added four modules onto User Manager Pro, including two password enhancements and two reporting functions:
- Random Password Generator (RPG). This module will be a boon to admins who use one administrator password for all their managed computers, creating a potentially serious security hole -- gaining access to one password opens up all computers to abuse. RPG allows admins to randomly generate passwords that conform to a company's security policy and change all local administrator accounts on a scheduled basis. Having a different password for every machine makes the network much more secure.
- Password Recovery Console (PRC). The PRC is essentially a delegation tool that allows admins to grant password recovery permissions to trusted users. Since password recovery can be a significant part of an admin's job, the PRC stands to be a time-saver.
- NTFS Permissions Reporting. In enterprise environments, keeping track of NTFS permissions can be a daunting task. Lieberman states on its website that it provides comprehensive collection and reporting capabilities, without slowing a system down to a crawl. The NTFS permission data sets can quickly grow quite large in those environments.
- Web Reporting. Web reporting allows authorized users to gain access to User Manager Pro's stored reports and collected data through any standard Web browser. According to the company, it was one of the most requested upgrades to User Manager Pro.
"The User Manager Pro Suite consolidates an assortment of diverse systems management features into one product, which are not collectively available in other solutions," said Philip Lieberman, president of Lieberman Software, in a press release. "Organizations find that as their enterprises progressively expand to include more users, accounts, and groups, it becomes increasingly difficult to manage and monitor their complex IT infrastructures. The new User Manager Pro Suite provides the control and insight that these organizations require to function at a highly efficient and productive level."
A free, 30-day trial is offered through the company's website, www.liebsoft.com. Pricing for User Manager Pro Suite starts at $39 per managed system.
