IBM and Nortel Team Up on SOA

IBM and Nortel announced an agreement to use each other’s technology, with the goal being to foster development of new applications.

Nortel is integrating IBM’s WebSphere Presence and Group List Enabler software, and in turn, IBM will use Nortel’s VoIP and fixed mobile convergence applications in its carrier solutions.

As part of the new agreement IBM and Nortel will leverage their current IMS developer and interoperability testing programs to speed up development of new apps and services, such as IP security/surveillance and enterprise business applications with “click-to-call capabilities,” according to the release.

“IBM and Nortel are extending our market leading offerings to give carriers an enhanced and interoperable service execution environment,” said Tim Greisinger, vice president, communications industry, IBM Software, in a statement. “Further, we are enabling a global ecosystem of third party independent software vendors to deliver next generation telecom services leveraging IBM’s open, IMS and SOA standards-based service delivery platform.”

IBM and Nortel will also open a new IMS testing/innovation center at Nortel's Richardson campus, according to the company statements.
