Nortel Bolsters Office Anywhere with New Platform Offerings

Nortel enhanced its Office Anywhere mobility software, adding new platform capabilities that will offer unified communications to mobile workers.

Multimedia Communications Server 5100 3.5 delivers voice, call management and instant messaging to workers. The MCS BlackBerry device soft client allows BlackBerry users to communicate or respond to voice messages via instant messaging. Mobile workers also have access to their instant messaging contact list.

Another new feature is CallPilot Unified Messaging 4.0 that allows voice messages to be embedded in e-mails, as well as real-time message notifications through a mobile worker’s BlackBerry device or handheld.

Nortel’s Secure Socket Layer Virtual Private Network (SSL VPN) Net Direct offers mobile workers full network access to internal business applications and services, such as IP, telephony and multimedia, from computers, cell phones, PDAs and other SSL-enabled Web devices. The SSL VPN also provides customers and partners with secure access without deploying and supporting traditional VPN access, requiring specific clients, devices, locations and designated networks.

Office Anywhere mobility products are built on Virtual Enterprise, which allows employees to work together, regardless of physical location. These products offer remote access, unified communications and collaborative applications across indoor and outdoor WLANs, cellular networks and wired networks.
