Segue, Borland bundle boosts J2EE testing

Segue Software and Borland today outlined plans to jointly market a bundled J2EE offering for optimizing the performance of enterprise Java applications. The agreement calls for selling a joint offering that incorporates Segue's SilkPerformer load and performance testing toolset and Borland's Optimizeit ServerTrace J2EE root-cause analysis offering.

Andre Pino, chief marketing officer at Segue, told eADT that the agreement calls for Borland to include an evaluation copy of SilkPerformer with each sale of the Optimizeit ServerTrace toolset. At the same time, Segue will provide its SilkPerformer customers with a Web link to a demonstration of the Borland offering. The two products fit well, he said, as SilkPerformer can uncover performance problems and alert developers to quickly direct the Optimizeit ServerTrace tool to capture and report on deep root-cause diagnostics information.

Pino told eADT that the combination should help to "enhance collaboration between the QA [Quality Assurance] and development" operations of large IT operations.

He said Segue customers are seeking further solutions to ensure that J2EE applications meet performance targets by eliminating application bottlenecks prior to deployment; this will reduce any risk and revenue loss caused by application outages in high-transaction, J2EE environments. "This agreement certainly solves a big problem for big J2EE shops," Pino told eADT. "[Because] many more J2EE applications are being used in mission-critical environments, testing is required."

Pino said the agreement could mark the start of a longer term and more extensive relationship with Borland, a maker of development and deployment tools.

The joint offering is available now from both suppliers, he added.
