CA touts its SPML to OASIS

With the voting by OASIS (www.oasis-open.org) members on final adoption of the Service Provisioning Markup Language (SPML) 1.0 specification set to end on Halloween, Computer Associates (CA) (www.ca.com) is touting support for it in its eTrust identity management tool.

XML-based SPML allows eTrust Admin's capabilities to be extended to any enterprise system or Web service with the necessary compliant interface, said CA officials.

Gavenraj Sodhi, CA's product manager for eTrust, told XML Report that "eTrust Admin is not only able to receive SPML-compliant messages to provision identities, but it is able to provision an identity to a resource using our SPML Bus."

Sodhi, co-founder and current secretary for the SPML specification at OASIS, noted that the provisioning standard supports Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML), Project Liberty, XML Digital Signature, Web Services Security (WSS) specification and XML Encryption. This means developers working with eTrust will find it faster and easier to set up secure provisioning applications for enterprise systems and Web services, he added.

"SPML simplifies the provisioning of identity-based Web services with reduced cost and overhead," Sodhi said.

CA recently demonstrated eTrust's SPML support with PeopleSoft's human resources system. PeopleSoft (www.peoplesoft.com), another major supporter and early adopter of SPML, has been demonstrating its HR applications since July.
