Tech Giants, Others, Donate Millions for Victims of Terrorist Attacks

Cisco Systems and Microsoft Corp. are donating millions of dollars to aid victims of last week's terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. San Jose, CA-based networking giant Cisco said it will donate $6 million donation to the Red Cross and other groups supporting relief efforts. Microsoft is set to give $5 million in cash and $5 million in software and services to help relief groups and government agencies.
Cisco Systems donation follows news that the company lost an employee in the attack. Suzanne Calley, 42, a resident of San Martin, CA, was a passenger on American Airlines flight 77, which crashed into the Pentagon.
Microsoft President Rick Belluzzo, said his firm is encouraging its 44,000 employees to make personal donations, for which the company would make matching donations of up to $12,000 per year. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is also donating $1 million to the September 11th Fund.
The attacks also prompted contributions from a wide range of companies and other groups.
And Internet retailer Amazon.com's online fundraising efforts has so far collected $1 million for the cause.
