Rational's big week

Rational Software Inc. officials used the stage at the firm's user conference in Denver this week to unveil a slew of offerings and agreements officials hope can help get the firm back on financial track.

New products brought out during the conference include an add-on tool for the ClearQuest configuration management offering that officials said can support synchronized defect and change tracking across geographically distributed sites. On the testing tool front, Rational introduced the PurifyPlus bundle, which is said to improve code quality and speed time to market by combining the firm's Purify, Quantify and PureCoverage offerings.

Rational also told users that the firm: has signed a pact with IBM to incorporate the ClearCase LT toolset into IBM's WebSphere Business Integrator v2.1 product; signed an agreement calling for the IEEE Computer Society to provide content from its Digital Library to the Rational Developer Network; and created an outsourcing service dubbed the Rational Test Bureau that officials said will allow IT developers to use Rational tools through certified Test Bureau partners.

Finally, officials unveiled the latest in its series of books on the Unified Modeling Language, UML For Database Design. The publication on how to leverage UML for database design, is co-authored by Eric Naiburg and Robert Maksimchuk.
