Storage Technology Corp., of Louisville, Colo. is saving trees and months of time by digitizing its Corporate Policies and Procedures (CPP) manual and putting it on desktops via the corporate Intranet.
StorageTek, famed maker of mid- to high-range computer storage systems, is using Waltham, Mass.-based Interleaf Corp.’s Interleaf 6 to author and distribute the CPP Manual to its 8,000 employees in roughly 230 offices throughout the world, according to Annette Bendickson, manager of corporate services. Interleaf enables StorageTek to add or make changes to a single source document and output it to a number of formats, in this case HTML and Java/WorldView format. Employees use a standard Web browser to access the CPP Manual.
By moving the CPP Manual to the corporate Intranet, StorageTek has reduced the production and distribution time of additions and modifications down to one or two days from seven weeks. "The project has been real successful, people are using [the electronic manual] more than the old paper copies," said Bendickson.
