Mercury buys freshwater for $147 million
Mercury Interactive Corp. has acquired Freshwater Software, a privately-held maker of performance monitoring products based in Boulder, Colorado, for $147 million in cash. Freshwater Software develops and markets global monitoring products and services used by system administrators in operations organizations to gauge application performance and availability.
Five-year-old Freshwater offers a suite of e-business monitoring and management solutions said to offer network and systems performance monitoring capabilities. The company claims a customer base of 3,000 users.
"The company has transformed itself from a tiny start-up into a rapidly growing, nationally recognized software provider with Fortune 500 customers," said Amnon Landan, chairman, CEO and president of Mercury Interactive. "We see a great synergy between our companies and a natural fit to our software solutions."
Landan said the freshwater tools complement Mercury's application performance management solutions that are used by IT organizations to monitor, identify and diagnose application performance problems. The new tools add the ability to monitor network and system level services such as LDAP, DNS, and email. In turn, Plans call for integrating the separate offerings to provide a combined view of application performance data, enabling them to collaborate and effectively deliver superior e-business performance.
