The expanding suite

The rational Suite will grow to 15 products with shipping next week (June 21) of new Version 2001A, the sixth implementation of the integrated tool offering.

The three new products in the suite include the Developer Network, a portal that was to be the flagship of Catapulse, acquired by Rational last fall from several investors that included rational co-founders Paul Levy and Michael Devlin.

The portal will offer Rational Suite users access to documentation, white papers and online developer communities aimed at helping to better use the suite, said Dave Rosenlund, senior director of product marketing.

The new version also adds a pair of real-time testing tools, dubbed Rational Test Real-Time and Quality Architect Real-Time—the first tools in the suite for developers of real-time systems, Rosenlund said. The new version of Quality Architect is built to test UML components, while the Test Real-Time offering tests non-UML components.

Rosenlund said each of the remaining 12 products in the suite have been upgraded since the previous version shipped late last year. The updates include a tighter integration between Rational Rose and the IDE's of IBM, Sun/Forte, Borland and WebGain, and adding Clearcase support for WebSphere, WebLogic and Apache.
