XML tools blend and bend

[MARCH 11, 2003/ADT'S PROGRAMMERS REPORT] - In the March issue of Application Development Trends magazine, writer Johanna Ambrosio provides a brief overview on growth in the nascent field of XML development tools. She writes that the field is divided into several smaller pieces; notably content creation tools aimed at either developers or end users, and integration-oriented tools that utilize XML for data mapping between diverse systems.

The lines are fuzzy, ZapThink LLC analyst Ron Schmelzer tells Ambrosio. Specifically, 'content' and 'services' (Web services or other) can blend, depending on the developer's bias or intentions. And by 2006, IDC sees the XML tool market growing by 41.5%. One wag opines that XML, today, is both a dessert topping and a floor wax, mimicking a 'Saturday Night' Live skit of years gone by.
