Yahoo Revamps App Analytics in Mobile Dev Suite

Yahoo has redesigned its app analytics service while updating its mobile dev suite, it announced yesterday from its mobile developer conference in San Francisco.

The Web giant debuted its Yahoo Mobile Developer Suite a year ago at its first such conference. The debut featured Flurry Analytics that it bought with an August 2014 acquisition of Flurry.

Flurry Analytics is used by developers to track metrics such as app installs, usage and crashes, while providing advertising and monetization functionality. Flurry is a popular tool in the burgeoning arena of analytics services aimed at mobile developers.

Flurry Analytics figured prominently in the conference keynote by exec Simon Khalaf, who reported it's now used by more than 250,000 developers.

"The new, redesigned Flurry provides a faster and more intuitive way to analyze data," Yahoo said in a statement. "Current customers can opt-in and gradually transition to the new platform over the next couple months."

The company also announced a new Flurry app, free for use by developers who want to access Flurry dashboard metrics from their iOS or Android devices.

New Flurry Analytics features listed by Yahoo include:

  • A new, modern UI with powerful workflow tools.
  • Real-Time Metrics, providing real-time data on how apps may be impacted by user updates, user acquisitions or enhancements.
  • New Dashboards, in fullscreen mode, that present all the metrics from a given metric area on a single page.
  • New Comparison capability, with context controls, that lets developers select multiple items for display at the same time and to quickly move between comparisons.
  • Filtering of data, so that mobile devs can apply filters, such as Country, Age, Gender and Language on the fly and view the results instantly.
  • Groups, which allows the grouping together of items, such as Apps or Events to quickly move between contexts of interest.
  • Explorer, with a redesigned UI that supports Segmentation reports, Funnels and Cohorts analysis, which can return results based on complex queries within seconds.

Along with the redesigned Flurry and new Flurry mobile app, Yahoo said its dev suite was updated with tvOS analytics support. It also announced direct ad serving, saying, "The new Flurry dashboard now allows developers to tackle ad inventory and build stronger relationships with their advertisers by directly managing the trafficking, targeting and tracking of ad campaigns."

The Yahoo mobile dev suite also includes components for app publishing, app marketing, Tumblr in-app sharing and Flurry Pulse, which lets developers send app data to multiple partners of choice with one SDK.
