Seapine Upgrades Surround SCM to Version 4

Seapine Software has released a new version of Surround SCM, a software change management solution. Version 4.0 has been upgraded with features such as WebDAV and Unicode support, improved branch management and enhanced reports.

Support for WebDAV enables developers to access the most recent versions of their files from any Web browser. WebDAV support also enables them to integrate Surround SCM into Microsoft Windows Explorer, Mac OS X Finder, Linux davfs filesystem, Adobe Photoshop 7.0 and additional applications.

There are benefits for non-technical users, too, says Richard Riccetti, Seapine’s president and CEO. These users can employ features such as change control and versioning without changing the way they work or learning a new application. “From the end user’s perspective, they are just accessing their files on another network drive with the added benefit that they can roll back to an older file version or compare two versions when necessary,” Riccetti says.

Surround SCM 4.0 includes full Unicode support, allowing developers to work with files, labels and comments in any language. All Surround SCM 4.0 clients on all supported operating systems are now Unicode enabled, the company says.

In addition, Surround SCM 4.0 users can now view differences between selected file versions or all file versions in a selected branch. The resulting differences report is generated in standard diff format for use with third-party file patch utilities such as the open-source tool GNU patch.

Other enhancements in Surround SCM 4.0 include new branch attributes, automatic software update notification and more.

Version 4 is available immediately, with pricing starting at $595.00 for named licenses and $1495 for floating licenses.
